Place of origin |
This striking machine-knitted cardigan was created by Missoni in 1974. Founded by Ottavio Missoni in 1953, Missoni became internationally recognised for their beautiful machine-knits for both men and women in densely patterned rich colour palettes. While the garments were machine-knitted, Ottavio Missoni said they were intended to have a 'handmade look' about them. He wore a version of this cardigan himself. Ottavio and his wife Rosita were also equal partners in every aspect of their family-owned and run business.
In 1974, the year this cardigan was made, the Fashion Museum in Bath acquired male and female ensembles by Missoni to represent the Dress of the Year. This was the first time that the Dress of the Year chose men's and women's looks from the same designer.
