Page from an album, from which the cover has been lost, on which are three prints of monograms, two of which incorporate a lion, below which is a horizontal monogram incorporating a fleurs-de-lys. Two of the monograms are painted in watercolour. The monograms are printed on a large, rectangular page of cream-coloured paper stuck to a slightly larger sheet of cream-coloured, stiffened paper.

Object history | The inscription 'Hill Side Wimbledon' on the sheet of printed designs is interesting because WH Rogers worked at Wimbledon and died there in 1873. Historical significance: This design is part of the W.Harry Rogers Archive and to quote the information on the archive provided by 'RW' on 6 February 1998 on the registered file 1997/1476: 'It is extraordinarily rare to have this kind of documentation at this level of production for the middle decades of the 19th century. The fact the (sic) the state of the designs ranges from rough sketches to finished drawings and proofs allows the pieces to document the design process very closely.' |
