Above the gilt borders on the shoulder are Chinese emblems reserved on a gilt diaper. Another gilt diaper border appears below the mouth.

Object history | For two teacups and saucers and a bowl of this pattern, see C.1437 to 1439-1910. Apparently depicting Middle Eastern musicians, this design is known as 'Trumpeter's Service' and shows the taste for the "exotic East". |
