Dish of porcelain, painted in underglaze cobalt blue. Saucer-shaped with wavy edge. In the middle, an eight-lobed slightly sunk panel containing a girl kneeling with outstretched arms before a seated man. Surrounding this are compartments moulded in the shape of lotus-petals, containing alternately the Eight Precious Things and flowers. Border of geometrical diaper. Underneath the rim, the Eight Precious Things alternately with lotus-blossoms; on the border, the Eight Trigrams separated by trellis diaper.

Object history | Bequeathed by Mr. George Salting, accessioned in 1910. This acquisition information reflects that found in the Asia Department registers, as part of a 2022 provenance research project. The scene is from the drama "Xi Xiang Ji" (The West Chamber): Hongniang kneels before Madame Zheng (Part IV, Act II). |
