Rectangular plaque glazed and overpainted on the front surface with a horizontal landscape format, unglazed on the back surface and grooved for mounting. Decorated with a photographically-realistic portrait of Hua Guofeng, designated successor to Mao Zedong (Chinese premier 1976, Chairman of the Central Committee of the CCP October 1976-1980), smiling and applauding. He sits at a table with two microphones, a briefcase, ash tray, lidded mug, pens and draft speech. The painting was copied from a photograph of Hua at a party plenum, press conference or similar meeting. The painting is carried out in shades of black, brown, blue, green and red. To the lower right is the inscription 'Drawn by Wu Jinhua at the Jingdezhen Craft Porcelain Factory', with red seal.
