Writing box decorated with autumn plants in gold lacquer on black lacquer and inlaid with mother-of-pearl and pewter, Japan, 1725-1775.
Physical description
Writing box (suzuribako) decorated with autumn plants in gold lacquer on black lacquer inklaid with mother-of-pearl and pewte; the interior is in nashiji (pear skin ground) lacquer and contains two oblong trays, an inkstone and water bottle of copper parcel gilt.
