Purse of brocaded silk woven in coloured silks and gilt-paper thread. The front is embroidered with gilt-paper thread and coloured silks. The pattern on the brocade consists of conventional flowers and foliage. The pattern on the front consists of a carp, near a basket, among waves, which is worked in blue and white silk. The purse is held by knotted red silk cords.

Object history | Given by Count Mutsu, accessioned in 1910. This acquisition information reflects that found in the Asia Department registers, as part of a 2022 provenance research project. The charm-bag (omamori bukuro) is intended to contain a religious amulet. The amulet, generally a small folded paper is fastened to the sash. |
