Wood, carved and coated with black thitsi lacquer onto which fine thayo work (relief moulded lacquer) has been moulded and further painted and finished with black lacquer.
Brief description
Burmese wood stemmed vessel and cover of thayo work finished in black lacquer. Konbaung Dynasty (1752-1885). Decorated with figurative, foliate and floral designs. ca. before 1855.

A" pair of black lacquered vases - nos 645" were received from Tenasserim, Martaban province in 1855 by the India Museum and were registered together under number 4383. They subsequently acquired the 1880 number of 01185 and were described in that register as: "Vases & Covers. Two. wood, black lacquer in relief ". One is now missing. 1880 Register Entry: [Room 8. Wall Case 30.] '01,185. VASES AND COVERS. Two, wood, black lacquer in relief; Tenasserim. 4,383'
