Storage Box (Thit-Ta)

before 1855 (made)
Place of origin

Rectangular metal hinged black thit-ta (storage box). Without a key hole. A pair of runners indicate that there would have been an inner tray - this is now missing.

The thayo work on the top and the sides has been patterned into a central scrolling vegetal zinme (Chiang Mai origin) design featuring bird and open flower head motifs bound with bands of twisted lines.

Inside the lid there is a framed picture painted in silvery white on a black ground of a prince on horseback together with his minister and attendant against a rich floral and foliate background.
