Collar (Neckwear)

19th century (made)
Place of origin

Actor's collar composed of triple layers of yellow, red and pale blue satin weave silk, embroidered with coloured silks and gold thread. The three collars, gradually increasing in size, are superimposed one upon the other; they are exactly similar in shape, square with large scalloped hanging projections at the corners and smaller projections of the same form between. From the largest (blue) collar depend four long widening pointed ribbons. The collars and ribbons are decorated with landscapes and detached floral forms; in the larger projections of the blue collar are pairs of figures in gardens.
