This piece was displayed at the Milan Triennale in 1951 and is very similar to the work designer Robin Day had displayed at the Festival of Britain that same year.
His wife Lucienne, whom he met when she was in her final year at the RCA, became a successful textile designer. This storage system was one of the furniture designs Robin Day displayed in the High-Cost Room Setting he designed for the Homes and Gardens Pavilion at the Festival of Britain. Lucienne Day designed her most famous textile Calyx as a curtain fabric for his Room Setting.

This room divider was commissioned from Robin Day as part of a room setting at the Milan Triennale of 1951. The example displayed here was actually shown at the Festival of Britain in 1951. The engraving bonded in plastic is by Geoffrey Clarke (b.1924).
