Pair of Boots

1800-1887 (made)
Place of origin

(325a-1887) One side of a pair of knee-high boots most likely worn by a Chinese theatre actor, as seen from its full-bodied and highly embroidered floral (325-1887 has a slightly different floral motif) and cloud motifs in multicoloured silk floss on black silk satin upper and cuff, with couched gold threads, with hemp lining inside, and a tiger-head (slightly larger than that of 325-1887) designed appliqué on its toe. Its sole appears to have been removed or cut off.
