Description at accession:
"Pair of slippers the upper of twisted and plaited straw, the sole of leather lined with sky-blue silk. Chinese, 19th-century"

According to Garrett, woven straw shoes were worn in the summer in the souther provinces (Garrett,161). Woven straw shoes are also most likely worn by peasants in the coldest weather where black cloth shoes or straw sandals were worn. (Garrett, 114).
