Sash of cotton and silver thread. The main field is woven in a herringbone pattern. The border, sewn on separately, is in plain weave with a pattern of stylised botehs, geometric and floral ornaments produced by impressing hot wires into metallic fabric. Fringe of silver tinsel.

According to the donor, this sash and the shawl IS 83-1988 were brought from India by her forebear Major William Sands (1750-90). He was in India until 1785 when he returned to England with Warren Hastings.
