Object history | Acquired by Caspar Purdon-Clarke during his purchasing trip to India in 1881 to 1882. 1883 Register entry: DRESS PIECE (Sari). Cotton. Woven with a diaper pattern in red on a green ground with side borders in red and white. The principal end border has transverse bands and striipes of orange silk and white cotton. Madura. 19th cent. L. 24 ft. 8 in., W. 3 ft. 7 in. Bought, 8s. 3d. 1745.-1883. (I.S.). |
