Object history
Acquired by Caspar Purdon-Clarke during his purchasing trip to India in 1881 to 1882. 1883 Register entry: DRESS PIECE (Sari). Black cotton cloth, with narrow side borders, one continued through the whole length, in gold thread on a red ground. The principal end border has a broad gold band and stripes of cone and other ornament in gold on a red ground. Madura. 19th cent. L. 26 ft. 4 in., W. 3 ft. 51 in. Bought, £4 10s. 1734.-1883. (I.S.).
