Object history | Acquired by Caspar Purdon Clarke on his purchasing trip to India in 1881 to 1882. 1883 South Kensington Museum Register entry: 'DRESS PIECE (Sari). Cream cotton net with narrow side borders of blue rosettes in gold compartments; on one side the border is succeeded by a plain blue stripe a short distance from the end. The end border has a small diaper pattern in gold thread with bands of cone and other ornament in gold on a white ground. Madura. 19th cent. L. 25 ft., W. 3 ft. 6 in. Bought, £4 2s. 1731-1883 (IS).' |
