Hanuman

1800-1850
Place of origin

This is a good quality " Ganga-Jamuna" image, with the flesh areas in copper and costume and jewellery in brass. There is little wear. It has been deliberately sliced down the middle from head to base to reveal the casting technique. The front half is catalogued as 726 and the back as 726A. Headline mesurements are totals/ maximum. The front is 9.8cm, 175g and the back 10.5cm. 201g. The costume elements have good incised details. The slicing reveals solid casting with a copper core but the brass parts are almost full depth rather than slightly inlaid or overlaid. It is still not entirely clear how this was achieved.
