Bust

Artist/Maker
Place of origin

A crudely modelled female bust with unusual feature in the roll behind the neck. Akhtar Dheri, possibly 1st century B.C.
A pinched-out nose and eyes indicated by shallow depressions. The hair seems to fall in ringlets on each side of the face; there are two applied and incised necklaces. At the back of the neck there is a long roll of clay secured by two straps, a feature which appears on a late non-Harappan moulded head from Mohenjo-daro. (Mackay, 'Further Excavations' Pl.LXXVI.12).
