Cotton, block-printed mordant and resist-dyed
Gujarat

This block-printed cotton fragment is one of thousands discovered in sites around Egypt. They were made in Gujarat and exported abroad. Carbon dating has shown some to be over 900 years old. Similarly patterned Gujarati block-printed textiles have been discovered in Indonesia, dating to the 14th century. This shows the wide reach of medieval trade in Indian textiles.(01/08/2017) |
