Sash (patka), in three fragments, woven of coloured silk and metal-wrapped thread. The end border decorated with a design of five flowering bouqets in vases on a gold background, framed with borders of blossoms. The side borders run the length of the textile, the field of which is patterned with lines of floral butas on gold ground.

Object history
Transferred from the India Museum in 1879, cut into three fragments for circulation in 1886. Slip book entry 7839: 'Long Scarf / Cummerbund / Ahmedabad / Obtained through Mr. R. Phillips from General Malcolm Augt 1868'. This is presumably Sir John Malcolm (1769-1833) who was Governor of Bombay from 1827-30. 1880 Register Entry: [Case 26] '0684. WAIST BAND."Cummerbund." Gold ground, coloured silk pattern; Ahmedabad. 7839'
