Silk with gold-wrapped thread
Central India
1850-1900
IS.181-1960

This elaborate sari is 7.6 metres long. It would have been worn in the Central Indian style, as shown here, with one end of the fabric drawn between the legs and tucked into the waist at the back.
The other end has the decorative end-panel (pallu), which is meant to be displayed. The pallu is a deep panel of gold-wrapped thread. Its tapestry-woven borders are typical of the Central Indian or Paithani style of sari.
