Costume design for Sophie Stewart as Vinnie in Act III Scene 2 of "Life With Father". The design depicts a full length female figure with right arm outstretched and holding a white parasol in her left hand. The figure wears an 1880's white morning or walking dress with bustle and hat with veil. The costume consists of a tight fitting white bodice with long sleeves and ruffles at the cuff and collar, and a white skirt with a series of flounced tiers at the sides and back. The bodice is fastened down the front with pale blue buttons, and the bustle is decorated with a large blue bow. The heart shaped hat is decorated with a veil and blue flowers. Grey paint has been applied around the figure. To the left of the figure is a pencil drawing showing the back view of the costume. Annotated by the artist.

Object history | This Costume design by Anthony Holland is part of an extensive collection of designs donated to the Theatre Museum by the artist in 1996. The design was executed for a production of Clarence Day's play "Life With Father" at the Savoy Theatre, June 6th,1947. The script was adapted by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, and the play was produced by Murray MacDonald. |
