KHADI CLOTH Long before Gandhi promoted home-spun khadi cloth, the V&A collected examples of the fabric. Here the difference in quality between the two, one rough, one fine, illustrates the contradictions of khadi that Gandhi had to deal with. Fine khadi cost more than imported mill cloth but most Indians could not afford it, and rough khadi was cheaper but unappealing to wear.
