Object history
Transferred from India Museum 1879.
These trousers were collected in Udaipur as part of a man's costume, of which the other constituents were a white muslin robe, a red cotton scarf and a red cotton turban. The price for the whole ensemble was 84 rupees, 12 annas, and 3 paisa. Although worn in Rajasthan, the mashru material of these trousers is typical of Varanesi. Slip book entry 6292: 'Suit of men's clothes / Oodeypore / 1867 / Original nos. 4319 / consists of 4 pieces (5) / Price Rs.84-12-3 / Scarf Taken out'. 1880 Register Entry: '05650. PYJAMAS. Amber satin. Dress, white muslin. Scarf, crimson cotton, with gold lace border. Turban, crimson cotton gauze, with gold lace border; Oodypore. 6292.'
