Vina, the principal national instrument of Hindustan, A carved bar of wood, terminating in monster heads at each extremity, is strung with four wires passing over the finger-board and three at each side of it. It has ten brass frets fastened with wax and movable at pleasure. Beneath the bar are two hollow painted gourds. Indian, 19th century.
