Pair of trousers made of brocaded red silk with gilt metallic threads (songket), lined with printed cotton with floral designs.
Object history
This pair of trousers was made in Lingga for a Malay Prince. It was presented by Cursetjee Frommurze, Esq. who was a well-known Parsi merchant in Singapore. He entered a business partnership with John Little in 1845 to form Little, Cursetjee & Co., the oldest department store in Singapore. He later married to an English woman, Maryanne in 1862.
