This is one of a pair of prints entitled Frozen Sky (Night and Day) that explore concepts of travel, communication, the passing of time and the sense of place. Ben Langlands and Nikki Bell (who work in partnership) have been using imagery derived from air route maps and destination codes since 1989. In Frozen Sky the three-letter airport abbreviations familar to air travellors (LHR = London, Heathrow; JFK = John F. Kennedy, New York; CDG = Charles de Gaulle, Paris; etc.) are arranged in two radiating circles of white text on a black background for Night and black text on a white background for Day.
