Fuchi
Place of origin |
Collars and pommels (fuchi-kashira)
These were mounted at the lower end and top of the hilt of the sword. They were generally made of iron or copper alloy but some makers used horn and other materials. The design of the two components would be on a particular theme, and the decoration could be matching or complementary. The pommel (kashira) at the top would be prominently visible when the sword was worn.
