Costume design for an Ice dancer as the Knife Grinder in the Cheapside Scene of "Dick Whittington on Ice". The design shows a full length male figure with a Mexican moustache and right hand on hip. The figure wears a slashed and be-ribboned red, orange, and purple puff sleeved shirt open at the chest, a black and gold spotted waistcoat, and black tights and boots. A pair of black leather bands are worn at the wrists, and he also wears a short medallion necklace and a pair of gold earrings. The figure also wears an orange head scarf and a large brimmed black hat decorated with a single orange feather. There are three fabric swatches attached to the upper left hand corner of the design.

Object history | This Costume design by Anthony Holland is part of an extensive collection of designs donated to the Theatre Museum by the artist in 1996. The design was executed for a production of the Ice Show "Dick Whittington on Ice" at the Empire Pool, Wembley, 1975. The show was produced and directed by Gerald Palmer, and choreographed by Reg Park. Historical significance: An example of late 20th century costume design for an Ice Show by an artist who worked extensively in this specialist area. |
