Her hair is swept up and styled with a comb and pins in the latest fashion. The artist, Teisai Hokuba, was known for his detailed depictions of dress.

Purchased from Messrs. Probsthain & Co., accessioned in 1903. This acquisition information reflects that found in the Asia Department registers, as part of a 2022 provenance research project.
