Bowl of earthenware transfer-printed over the glaze. Printed on one side with an oval panel containing a view entitled 'A East View of the Cast Iron Bridge over the River Wear built by R. Burdon, M.P. / Span 236 feet height 100 Begun Sepr. 1793. Open'd 9 Augt. 1796'. On the other side between floral wreaths is a small vignette of a ship and the inscription 'Mild Charity's glow / To us mortals below / Shows the soul from barbarity clear: / Compassion will melt / Where the virtue is felt / An its dew is diffus'd in a tear.'. Borders and scribbles of pink lustre.
