Object history | Kenzo Takada (b.1939) is a Japanese designer and founder of the Kenzo label. Born in Japan, he studied fashion at Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo before moving to Paris in 1965. Takada opened his first store, Jungle Jap, in 1970 at 43 Galerie Vivienne. The label was later re-branded as Kenzo as the term 'Jap' was increasingly viewed as offensive, and used in a derogatory way. |
