Table frontal of tapestry weave silk (kesi). Woven with bright coloured silks on a ground of gilt paper thread tinted with water-colour paint. In the centre of the main panel two birds are standing on conventional rockery. Growing from these rocks is a peony and a magnolia tree and another flowering tree. In the centre of the top panel is a white elephant with a vase on its back. Vases of artists implements, books, fungus and bamboo and a stand with a dish of finger citrons can be seen depicted on either side of the central motif. The borders are composed of pairs of peaches alternating with bats and flowers.

Purchased from Mrs. Olga Julia Wegener (22 Eosemacjerstrasse, Berlin, W.), accessioned in 1910. This acquisition information reflects that found in the Asia Department registers, as part of a 2022 provenance research project.
