The box, in the form of an elongated octagon, has a convex cover secured by two buckle-hinges at the back and by a hasp and eye in front. The hinges and a raised panel on the cover are repoussé and incised with flat floral designs and leaves in the Chinese style, whilst round the various edges is a close dentate fillet.
