Female aristocrats in Ache wore a striped silk hip cloth over trousers as ceremonial clothing. They covered their crotches to abide by Muslim rules on propriety. The warp threads are resist-dyed to create the chevron patterns. This wrap ikat is typical of Acehnese silk textiles.
