Border of cotton chintz, drawn and painted by hand in dye colours. Hand painted in red, blue, green and manganese within a black outline. The pattern consists of rows of vases from which grows one of two delicately drawn scrolling and twisting stems bearing small flowers and pointed leaves. The bottom border is formed of an arcade of floral stems above scrolling stems. The border was probably intended for a valance.
