Brief description | Portion of a hand loom, of teak and cane, with partly woven silk sarong, Terengganu, Malaysia; exhibited at the British Empire Exhibition (Malaya Pavilion), Wembley in 1924. |
Physical description | The adjustable portions of a low-warp hand loom, of teak and cane, set with the coloured silk warps for a sarong and a short length of the finished fabric. The parts comprise the reed, the two heddles, the treadles (of cord and bamboo), the flat warp-beam, the octagonal breast-beam grooved for the tacking-on of the finished fabric, two flat lease-rods, and a stick-shuttle wound with white silk and covered with a tubular sheath with rounded point. Passing through the reed and wound round the warp-beam is the warp of white, yellow, pink, green and black silks, whilst beyond the reed is a short length of the finished sarong, ready for attachment to the breast-beam. |
