Wayang Golek Puppet
1800–1900
In Wayang Golek theatre the puppets are three-dimensional
and the performance takes place in full view of the audience.
This type of theatre is said to have been introduced to Java in
1584 by a Muslim saint. Later it became associated with stories
from the great Indian epics, the Mahabharata and Ramayana.
This figure represents Brajamusti from the Mahabharata.
