Object history
Bought from R. Gordon-Smith Esq for £100 in 1909 (on loan to the museum from 1905). Accession register has the note: 'The Vendor states that the painting was obtained by an officer of the 23rd Royal Welsh at Lucknow, during the relief of that city in 1857'. Inscribed on the back of IM.2:1-1909: 'Surgeon P. J. Clarke, 90th Rgt./17 [?]/7/58'
