Model of a fishing-cage, in the shape of an elongated cone. The cage is formed of flat pieces of bamboo, each of which for two-thirds of its length is split into four thin rods, interwoven with cane-lashing. The narrow orifice is bound with cane-lashing as is also the body in four horizontal bands.

'MODEL of a Fishing-cage (Juluki), formed of flat pieces of bamboo, each of which for two-thirds of its length is split into four thin rods, interwoven with cane-lashing. In common use among the natives of Assam. Made at JORHAT, SIBSAGAR DISTRICT, ASSAM, N.E. INDIA; 20th century. H. 4 in., diam. of wide end, 2 ½ in. Given by H. Shuldham Shaw, Esq. In the shape of an elongated cone. The narrow orifice is bound with cane lashing as is also the body in four horizontal bands. For use in the muddy water of ponds and rice-fields. The cage is repeatedly plunged into the water and brought uprights, when any fish trapped are taken through the small end.' [text quoted from the acquisition register] Given by H.
