Fragment

18th century (made)
Place of origin

Terracotta brick, modelled, in a countersunk panel, with a female figure representing Sita, the wife of Rama. However, some discrepancy with numbers has occurred and the brick from the same series currently marked with this number shows a male figure, possibly Balarama, an avatar or incarnation of Vishnu, which should be numbered IM.36-1909. The figure of Balarama holds a plough in his left hand (proper) and a horn in his raised, right hand (proper), both common in his iconography.
