Object history
Purchased from Dr. S. W. Bushell (Temple Club, Arundel Street, Strand), accessioned in 1899. This acquisition information reflects that found in the Asia Department registers, as part of a 2022 provenance research project.
Production
Opinion of Jessica Rawson 25/7/90: fake inscription, the base section could possibly be right, the pattern done using pattern blocks. Could be 6th century BC but not absolutely sure. Buffalos not genuine - could have been added?
