Shrine (Butsudan) and fittings of lacquered and gilt wood and metal. The case is of black lacquer with metal mounts, and is closed in front by two pairs of double-hinged doors, the outer being solid and the inner formed of gauze fitted on a framework. On each side are three rings with a red cord (one missing). The interior consists of an architectural construction of lacquered and gilt wood with metal mounts and contains a wooden figure of Buddha and various vessels. According to documents, the shrine was made about 1860 Osaka, Japan in the workshops of Nakagawa Hionosuki Minamoto no Mitsunori. The figure of Buddha dates probably from the 16th century and is stated to have belonged to Asano Takumi-no-Kami Naganori, the daimio whose death in 1700 was avenged by his faithful retainers, the forty-seven Ronin.
