Plate with shallow well and cupward curing rim, recessed base and very shallow unglazed foot. Painted in the centre with arms of Bannatyne, Gules a chevron argent between three mullets or, quartering clearly Macleod with tinctures reversed, correctly Azure a castle triple towered and embattled argent masoned sable, port gules (but here argent a castle....azure). The crest and mottoes are of Bannatyne, A demi griffin and 'Nec cito, nec tarde' and 'Murus at heneus' - all in a round topped square frame; probably after a book plate. Round the sides overlapping the well is a broad border with four panels depicting birds in landscapes set in a ground of blue and light green enamels, with gilt fretwork, alternating with scrolled plume motifs, with pendant swags and tassels mainly in salmon pink and gold.
