The theme of a young woman receiving advice from an elderly duenna is a popular one in Mughal painting. This atmospheric scene, set in a palace garden at night, would have been bound in an album with other images of princesses and noblemen, probably alternating with calligraphic panels. There is one such panel on the reverse of this painting.(27/9/2013) |
