Marks and inscriptions | Ram Dass, a Hindoo of the Kayth Cast, born at the Village of Manicknagur, in the Island of Cozimbazar, says he is Aged many Years above Sixty, as he recollects to have been shewn as a Dwarf Man to the Subah of Bengal, Seraje and Dowlah, when that Prince left Moorshedabad to attach the English Factory at Calcutta. his exact height is 39 inches & 3/4. He was married at the age of 30 & has had Two children, one Son (whose portrait is sketched above) & (one?) Daughter, who is also married & has borne many children, who are of the common Size with other Natives of (Bengal). (Inscribed on front in ink) |

Object history | The volume containing 49 watercolour paintings is entitled 'Views in India'. It was bought from Mr. T. Toon, 38 Leicester Square, for £50 on 4 March 1887. This acquisition information reflects that found in the Museum records (Asia Department registers and/or Central Inventory) as part of a 2023 provenance research project. |
