A courtesan parades the streets of the Yoshiwara brothel district in Edo (present-day Tokyo), almost submerged by her abundant and lavishly decorated robes. Her hair style and ornamentation are typical of the extremes of early nineteenth-century coiffure and proclaim her highly fashionable status.
