Table
1550-1599 (made)
Place of origin |
Miniature square table with corner set legs and shuyao waist (zhuo form), in black lacquer inlaid with mother of pearl with incised detail on a wood core. The straight legs are joined at the bottom by "hunchback" stretchers, below which are small outward sloping feet. The waist is rather high relative to the total proportions.
The outer surfaces of the legs and stretchers are decorated with plum blossom, the waist with stylised floral roundels. The top carries, within a double frame, a scene of 5 boys playing among rocks and balustrades, under a peach tree in fruit. A bird flies overhead.
