Gallery label
The image of the dead Christ was a symbol of the Eucharist, or Holy Communion. It often featured on the door of the tabernacle, where the sanctified bread was kept in a church. This is a cast of what was almost certainly the tabernacle door in the basilica in Padua. The emaciated figure of Christ is framed by elegant Renaissance arches.(2014)
